About Jersey City Medical Center. Since its inception in 1808, more than one million patients have been seen at the Jersey City Medical Center. In 1881, it became the Jersey City Charity Hospital when it moved to the site at Montgomery Street and Baldwin Avenue. It grew into a 220 bed, three story structure in 1909.
